A true gem of the Valle d’Itria, Martina Franca offers unique charm in every season, with a calendar full of cultural, musical, and artistic events organized by local institutions and associations—something for visitors of all ages to enjoy.

Its central geographic location also makes it the perfect starting point or final stop for a wide variety of travel itineraries and themed tours.

This time, we’re excited to share a fascinating initiative organized by the local branch of the Valle d’Itria Ecomuseum Association: the discovery of the Church of San Nicola Petrullo in Montedoro.

The first event has already taken place, but don’t miss the second special opening, scheduled for Sunday, May 24, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Why is this such a special event?
Usually closed to the public, San Nicola is one of the oldest historical monuments in the town. The church itself was built on the remains of an earlier structure dating back to the 14th century.

Its architectural style stands in contrast to the Baroque aesthetic that dominates Martina Franca’s historic center. The interior frescoes, altered over the centuries, artistically and delicately narrate the historical events witnessed by the building as a silent guardian of time.

This event is part of a broader series promoted by the Ecomuseum Association, aimed at exploring and sharing the city’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage, under the initiative “Travel Diaries – A Journey of Territorial Discovery.”

This is no ordinary guided tour. During the event, Ecomuseum staff will enrich the experience with stories and insights drawn from local traditions surrounding San Nicola, a beloved figure also celebrated in many other towns across Puglia.

Visitors are encouraged to actively participate, contributing personal memories or knowledge to further deepen the narrative.

A unique opportunity to add cultural depth to your stay at Suite San Martino—and a wonderful chance to experience firsthand the rich heritage of Martina Franca’s old town, where the Suite is located just steps away from this historic treasure.
